Head of Department

Prof. Sujit Kumar Choudhary is a Professor of Sociology, Dean of the School of Social Sciences, Head of the Department of Sociology and Head (I/C) of the Department of Social Work at the Mahatma Gandhi Central University, Motihari, Bihar. Prof. Choudhary has been Professor of Sociology at the Department of Sociology at Mahatma Gandhi Central University (MGCU), Motihari, since September 27, 2022. He served as an Associate Professor and Head of Department of Sociology, MGCU from September 27, 2019 to September 26, 2022 and has been continue to hold the post of the Head of the department of Sociology. Before joining to MGCU, he also worked as an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the Central University of Jharkhand, Ranchi (03/09/2012 to 26/09/2029) and Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur (08/08/2009 to 01/09/2012). He obtained his MA, M.Phil., and PhD in Sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. He occupied a position under 2 % Scientists Ranking in 2024 and 2025 released by Satanford University, USA. Most prestigious awards the UGC-Research Award (2016-18), APJ Abdul Kalam Award 2025, 10 Writers of 2025, Veer Shivaji Art Award 2025, Best Indian Golden Personalities Award 2025 Bharat Gaurav Award (2025), Chankya Award (2025), R.K. Narayan Memorial Award (2025), Swami Vivekananda Excellence Award (2019), Glory of India, Gold Medalist (2019), Biography of the Year (2017), Bharat Vikas Award (2017), Jewel of India Award (2016), Shiksha Rattan Puruskar (2012) and Bharat Jyoti Award (2012) were conferred on him for his meritorious services, outstanding performance and remarkable role in the field of education and best academic foundational work in sociology discipline. Prof. Choudhary has published 44 research papers in the international, national refereed journals and edited volumes. He has six books to his credit of international repute, has delivered 57 invited talks, and has acted as a chairperson in various national and international seminars/conferences. Prof. Choudhary presented 45 research papers at international and national conferences/seminars, including at Harvard University, Boston, USA, Japan Women’s University, Tokyo, and Porto Alegre, Brazil, and also acts as a member of many editorial boards, reviewers' committees, etc. He is also an expert of various Public Service Commissions in different capacities and acts as an expert of many universities of India.
